Un espace de repos sur le web, inspiré des signaux de référence de la télévision : le code-barres et les fréquences pures (tones).

Restarea est un site web empreint d’une ambiance apaisante, une surface bleue réconfortante peuplée de rectangles colorés qui traversent lentement l’écran, évoquant délibérément une mire de réglage ou une toile de Piet Mondrian. L’environnement sonore est constitué de microsons et distille un cliquetis rythmé entremêlé d’autres tonalités minimalistes. L’esthétique globale du site est à l’image de Nancy elle-même : sans prétention et faussement austère, épuré mais infiniment complexe.  – Anna Friz (trad. Gabriel Chagnon)

Cette œuvre a été créé dans le cadre de PÉRIPHÉRIQUE, un projet de création et de diffusion d’art web porté par des femmes, placé sous la direction de la commissaire Nicole Gingras et produit par le GIV (Groupe Intervention Vidéo, Montréal).

En 2001, Restarea a été présentée au New Museum of Contemporary Art, à New York (États-Unis), dans le cadre de l’exposition collective Emplacement/Déplacement, Location/Dislocation (commissaires : Valérie Lamontagne et Sylvie Parent), ainsi qu’au Studio XX, à Montréal, durant le festival HTMlles. L’œuvre a aussi fait partie de l’exposition de groupe Événement Périphérique, présentée par le GIV à Montréal en 2000

La production de cette œuvre a valu deux distinctions à l’artiste, soit la mention excellent artist au concours Art on The Net du Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts de Tokyo en 2000, puis le Prix du public au festival HTMlles en 2001.

A space of rest on the web inspired by the television’s color bar and test tone.

The site is “an ambient website for relaxation”, a soothing blue plane inhabited by colored rectangles slowly drifting across the screen, intentionally reminiscent of a television test pattern or a Piet Mondrian painting. The accompanying soundtrack is of the microsound ilk— a clicking rhythm layered with other minimal tones. The overall aesthetic is like Nancy herself—unassuming and deceptively spare, with layers of complexity at work behind an uncluttered presentation.  – Anna Friz

Restarea was created as part of PÉRIPHÉRIQUE, a creation and dissemination project for Web art by women, under the direction of curator Nicole Gingras and produced by GIV (Groupe Intervention Vidéo, Montréal).

In 2001, Restarea was presented at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, in New-York City, during the group exhibition Emplacement/Déplacement, Location/Dislocation (curators: Valérie Lamontagne et Sylvie Parent), and at Studio XX, in Montréal, during the HTMlles festival. The work was also part of the group exhibition Événement Périphérique, presented by the GIV in Montréal in 2000.

The production of this work earned the artist two distinctions: the Excellent Artist Award at the Art on The Net competition of the Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts in Tokyo in 2000, and the Audience Award at the HTMlles Festival in 2001.
